Woven Memories

Format: Plastic Vases
Materials: Acrylic
Released: 2023

This project presents a series of pieces crafted from vacuum-formed plastic sheets that were first UV-printed with weaving patterns. These designs were developed from African visual memories associated with the idea of home, drawing on references such as the colours of Kirikou, the curves of a Yoruba crouching stool, and the textures of woven leather containers. These elements were combined with shapes, palettes, and domestic cues found in European environments familiar to the designer, forming a hybrid visual language that reflects layered cultural belonging.

The making process was conceived as a translation of memory into material form, with personal imagery transformed into patterns and reshaped through vacuum forming. Although rooted in an intimate narrative, the approach was designed to allow for future personalisation, enabling others to adapt the method to their own experiences. The resulting vases function as vessels that hold and evoke the tangible presence of home.
